| GC Services Collection Agency Review |
The name implies collections, and GC Services, with more than a billion dollars of delinquencies entrusted to them yearly certainly provides that service (they were rated #1 by Nissan and Sally Mae in 2005 and have remained on the top ten list since 1997). They are much more than a collection agency though. GC Services provides a range of business management products, including:
GC services has been in business since 1957, currently employs a workforce of 10,000 and handles more than a million calls a day. Their niche is outsourcing customer contact and customer relations with a focus on pre-delinquency contact and collections. To accomplish this mission, they maintain 35 call centers in the US.
Because GC Services is one of the top collection agencies in the US, there's no shortage of complaints against them. Largely this is the nature of collections. While not a Better Business Bureau affiliated company, GC Services is rated (a grade of 'C' on the BBB scale) and complaints are tracked. Of 550 complaints filed with the BBB (last 3 years) a remarkable 544 were resolved. Considering the incendiary nature of the collections process and the likelihood of complaint generation, this is an excellent track record. GC Services it the largest privately held collections agency in the US. Because it isn't publicly traded, detailed company information is difficult to come by. Recovery rates in particular are missing from their website. They seem to be expanding into a more general customer care business model over straight collections, but they list an impressive array of collection types, and this seems to be the core competency of the company. Of particular interest is how many governmental collections activities they are involved in:
GC Services collects for many governmental agencies, but they do not seem to be involved in recent scandals where collection companies have been impersonating law enforcement officers.
GC Services seems to have bought into the "flash first" model for its website. Lots of fly-outs and pop-ups with a badly recorded welcoming message. Very difficult to navigate and bereft of specifics. The feeling is that they aren't getting customers off the web, but maintain a site for vanity reasons. In fact, the site doesn't even seem to have been updated since 2006. There are many complaints online about GC Services and collections practices. Most deal with frequent phone calls seeking information. This is within the scope of legal debt collection activity. |
